Accounting is the language of business. It involves the systematic recording, reporting, and analysis of financial transactions and plays a pivotal role in the financial monitoring and control of every organisation.
Through financial statements accounting allows a company to report on its operations, financial position and cash flows to managers and shareholders. Accounting also informs and drives the budget process and facilitates reporting on other important performance measures.
I've always been interested in disciplines based on mathematics and analysis, so I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to study accounting. It can be quite challenging at times, but is also extremely rewarding. It's also really interesting learning about the challenges that the accounting industry faces.
