Deputy Dean, International

Michaela Rankin

Michaela has taken on a range of leadership roles in the discipline of Accounting over many years.

She joined Monash in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer in Accounting, and held the role of course director of the Master of Professional Accounting, one of the University’s largest international cohort postgraduate courses, for some six years.

Since her promotion to Associate Professor in early 2013, she was Director of Education for more than two years, before her appointment as Deputy Head of Department in September 2015. In addition to service to academia, Michaela has maintained a strong presence in professional and industry circles.

Throughout her academic career, Michaela has achieved excellence in both research and education. Her passion and commitment to the student learning experience at all levels (undergraduate, MBA and postgraduate) has been formally recognised in  awards from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and Monash University, and her teaching evaluations are consistently excellent. Michaela’s research focuses on sustainability, governance and executive compensation. Throughout her career to date she has attracted prizes as an early career researcher and her research has since attracted external research funding, and has been published widely across top journals.

Internationalisation, and accreditation has been front and centre of Michaela’s work, given the importance of international students and accreditation to our Accounting programs. In the role of Deputy Dean (International) Michaela will be a powerful advocate for the Faculty’s quality initiatives and accreditations and a strong ambassador among our international networks.
