End of Year 2016 Academic Progress
At the end of each year, a review is conducted of the academic performance of all students in the Faculty of Business and Economics. If your academic progress is found to be unsatisfactory according to the Faculty of Business and Economics academic progress rules, there are three possible outcomes.
- the Faculty may permit you to continue your course without restriction;
- the Faculty may send you a letter advising you that conditions have been imposed on your continued enrolment; or
- you may be sent a Notice of Referral advising that you must respond giving reasons why you should not be excluded from the Faculty.
If a Notice of Referral has been sent to you.
This information is for students who have failed to satisfy the Faculty of Business and Economics academic progress rules for the 2016 academic year, and who have been sent a Notice of Referral.
You must take action immediately as directed in the Notice of Referral that has been posted to you. Please refer to the checklist below.
Student Response Checklist
- Read the Notice of Referral - that has been emailed to your Monash student email account.
You are strongly advised to seek advice in preparing your response. Please refer to the links provided under Further Information.
- Complete the Notice of Referral Student Response form [download].
You must complete the Student Response form as directed in the Notice of Referral letter and submit your response before 5pm, Friday 27 January 2017.
- Ensure your correspondence address is correct at all times and collect any mail sent to that address.

- Check your Monash Email Account regularly
All email correspondence from the Faculty will be sent only to your Monash email account.
- Ensure you are available to attend a hearing by the Academic Progress Committee from Wednesday 8 February 2017.
Student Rights Officers
You can obtain independent advocacy, advice and assistance from Student Rights Officers. Student Rights Officers can assist you in your written response, in preparing for a possible hearing, and accompanying you to your hearing.
Early Warning Letters
Students who have failed one or more units in the last semester may be sent an Early Warning Letter. If you receive an Early Warning Letter it means you must take action to improve your academic performance. The letter provides information about how you can obtain assistance with any problems which may be affecting your academic progress. Failure to take action to improve academic performance could result in future breaches of the Academic Progress Rules and referral to the Academic Progress Committee.
