Hi, my name is Madeleine and I’m in my second last year of a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and Bachelor of Journalism double degree. I am also currently the President of the Monash Marketing Students' Society (MMSS) at the Caulfield campus.

Monash is a huge place. It’s a very daunting and overwhelming place for an 18-year old girl from Tasmania to find herself in, but also a very exciting one. When I first arrived in Melbourne, I knew no one so, as a result, in those first few weeks I decided to throw myself into university life as much as possible.

It was during this time that I was first introduced to The Monash Marketing Students' Society, and after almost three years I can honestly say that it has been the best and most rewarding part of my university life!

Taking on the role of President has been quite demanding but also extremely rewarding. It has provided me with the opportunity to work with an amazing team that helps to organise events that heighten the university experience. We work hard to provide students with access to a range of events, in both a professional and social setting, that enhance student life. These events also ultimately increase employability through networking with industry professionals.

The Monash Marketing Students' Society has taught me so many valuable things, but the best thing I am able to take away from it is the people I have met. Not only has MMSS provided me with a direct link to industry and enabled me to develop relationships with very inspiring and talented young people, but it has also given me the chance to be surrounded by a diverse and passionate group of students. It’s an environment that makes you want to better yourself and do better for the team and wider student body.

Clubs at Monash are the driving force behind a diverse and engaging university life. If I had any advice for students, in any year level, it would be to get involved. Being a part of a student society is so much more than just a resume booster. It has provided me with both professional and life experience, as well as given me the confidence to enter the 'real' world.
