Governance conference a first for Business School
An exciting and vibrant program awaits attendees at the 7th Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Conference, hosted by the Department of Banking and Finance next year.
Conference Convenor Associate Professor Barry Williams said it was a wonderful opportunity for the Business School to host such a reputable conference.
"It is the first time the University has hosted the annual event, and the organising committee is planning an interesting and varied program," Associate Professor Williams said.
"Internationally-renowned academic Professor Stephen Brown, from the New York University Stern School of Business, will deliver the keynote speech.
"We are planning a number of initiatives that promise to provide a stimulating environment for all who attend. It is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the attractions of marvellous Melbourne."
An editors' panel featuring Professor Jonathan Batten, Monash University; Professor Kevin Davis, Monash University and the Australian Centre for Financial Studies; Professor Ghon Rhee, University of Hawaii; and Professor Tom Smith, The University of Queensland, will also be a highlight.
The broad themes of the conference will include: corporate governance and social responsibility; corporate finance; financial accounting; financial institutions and markets; asset pricing; and fund management. A best paper prize will be awarded in each of these themes.
Selected papers from the conference will feature in a special issue of the Pacific Basic Finance Journal.
A PhD Symposium will also be held on Wednesday 30 March. It will provide PhD students with opportunities to receive quality feedback about their academic work.
