The MBA alumni advisory committee provides an essential link between Monash's flagship MBA programs and our alumni, and includes leaders from a cross-section of business.

The MBA alumni advisory committee supports the mission, vision and strategic direction of the MBA program, with representatives contributing their experience and business acumen to our corporate, community and alumni engagement strategies.

Tom Quinlan is a company Director with a solid background in finance as a CPA. He has extensive management and Director experience:

  • Founding Director of Quinlan Consulting Team. Tom established a Management Accounting company operating in Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Perth
  • Founding Director of Quinlan Consulting. Tom built and manages accounting and finance training across five states in Australia and India. This course has assisted over 1000 accounting students
  • Chair of the Monash MBA Alumni Advisory Committee
  • Held a board seat on the Monash University Department of Management Advisory Board
  • Chair of Special Olympics Melbourne Inner East
  • Co Owner of Kidz Central Family Daycare
  • Director of Quinlan Tax

Tom has senior management experience working with top 100 ASX listed company National Foods. Over seven years he performed roles encompassing Financial Accounting, Financial Systems, Business Process Analyst, Manager of Portfolio Development, worked on the IT Strategy project with Boston Consulting Group consultants for 9 months, and led the Finance section of National Foods SAP roll out which was the largest SAP implementation in Australia that year and won the SAP Australia best implementation award.

Tom is a CPA, holds a MBA from Monash University, completed IT and Accounting degrees at Monash University, and was selected for the John Bertrand Leadership series.

With extensive Human Resources experience gained over 20 years in a variety of industries including FMCG, Retail and Property, Katea has worked at executive levels over the past 10 years. Her reputation is built on a genuine commitment to creating competitive business advantage through people.

Most recently, Chief Human Resources Officer for Fosters Group, Katea has also held the most senior HR roles with Colonial First State Property Management and Country Road. Working in the Australian, UK and US markets Katea has also held senior HR roles with L'Oreal and Revlon. In addition to her MBA gained at Monash University, Katea also has qualifications from the University of Melbourne in Training and Development. A co-founder and Director of the Maverick Rose Group, Katea is also a Board Member for the T20 cricket team the Melbourne Renegades.

Justin believes in seeing the not-for-profit sector from a different lens – as a business that strives for a purpose. He is using his MBA to bring a customer-focused, commercial approach to the sector.

Justin has a passion to lead the change toward a sustainable economy, and is using his experience as a leader, presenter and facilitator to help organisations create value through strategy development and delivery.

Leveraging more than 10 years of project leadership and stakeholder engagement experience in the U.S. and Australia, Justin believes organisations can build lasting competitive advantage by re-thinking how business is done – encompassing their environmental responses, social responsibilities, and economic growth.

As a signatory to the UN Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), the Monash MBA program has provided both a strong grounding in business training and in the leadership required to meet the challenges presented by climate change both in society and in business.

Peter Cosman, National Support Manager, Woolworths Limited

Peter is a strategic and commercially focused general manager, having developed his skills across a broad range of retail and property businesses. 

In his previous role as Central Renewal Manager, Coles Group, Peter led a team responsible for the delivery of new and refurbished stores and store operations optimisation. Prior to Coles, Peter worked at Westfield in the capacity of Management Executive. In this role, he was responsible for optimising shopping centre retail and developing shopping centre amenity.

Peter is passionate about developing and progressing the Monash MBA Alumni network – he understands the degree to which the collective expertise of the Alumni can and should be harnessed to further enhance our professional and personal skills and knowledge.

Lena Ross, Senior Consultant – Enterprise Change, NAB

Lena is a change management professional who applies sound academic discipline to practical application. 

With over two decades of experience in how we are hardwired to learn and change, Lena guides teams and individuals through transformation. With her passion for bringing out the best in others, she is able to help people to recognise the 'AHA' moment that is needed to affect sustainable change. As an experienced and confident public speaker and facilitator, her divergent thinking and approach will challenge her audience just enough to nudge them out of their comfort zone to devise action plans with commitment and purpose.

In her current role at NAB, Lena advises on emerging change capabilities and delivers change leadership programs. In addition to her work with teams across NAB, Lena has been invited to speak and provide thought leadership on the emerging field of "neuroscience of change and human behaviour" by the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) OD&D Committee and the NAB Village. Her work in embedding change methodology has also been recognised within the industry, as she has been invited as a panellist at a number of industry events.

Lena also applies her diverse interests and capability in her role as a registered Civil Marriage Celebrant, where she connects with people in a non-corporate context to help facilitate their personal milestones./>

Sunil Rane, Consultant, Sagacity Consulting

Sunil currently serves as a consultant within the Sagacity Consulting Team, which is part of the Maverick Rose Group. His work is within the education sector, delivering on a strategy to improve the customer engagement experience.

With Sagacity Consulting, Sunil has primarily worked in the education sector on projects including enhancing engagement and enrolment processes, including the development of performance metrics and systems solutions.

Sunil has rich international experience in the field of Information Security and has previously worked on projects in the areas of Banking, Finance, Oil & Gas, Telecommunication, Health and Government institutions.

In addition to being an alumnus to the Executive Masters of Business Administration program (2013), Sunil also has an engineering degree and an array of Information Technology certifications.

To the Advisory Committee, Sunil brings his genuine need to help foster and grow the alumni community. He has worked closely with the MBA community, working in multiple other roles before being elected to be a part of the committee.

Prof Patrick Butler, Director MBA Programs, Monash Business School

Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Studies from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and he completed his Doctor pf Philosophy in marketing at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. He also holds the degree of Master of Arts (jure officii) from Trinity College Dublin.

Patrick's research focuses on marketing strategy, politics and public sector management issues. He has published in a variety of international books and journals, and has extensive consulting and executive development experience across a range of sectors including commercial banking, food production, healthcare, and government. He has worked on marketing development projects with EU and UN organisations in Africa and Russia, and with client organisations in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Poland and Switzerland.
