Topic

Does performance-based pay increase motivation and job performance? Does the use of performance-based pay reduce intrinsic motivation and encourage selfish behaviour?

In this session, the controversies surrounding performance-based pay will be discussed and a number of practical implications for pay system design will be outlined. The debate will be resolved with the explanation of several science-based "stylised facts" about incentive pay; these facts can be used to improve employee reactions to performance-based pay and, ultimately, organisation effectiveness.

This event is particularly valuable for organisations developing operations in a global context or managing subsidiaries across the globe. It provides a unique opportunity for organisations to learn about effective strategies and practices from the IMPACT (Investigating Merit Pay across Countries and Territories) project, a 50-country global project led by Jason Shaw.
