The CDES unites researchers from a variety of academic backgrounds and disciplines who are interested in the business, economic and social problems affecting the developing world and the environment and sustainability more broadly.
Our members conduct rigorous, policy-relevant academic research to better understand these problems and the ways in which they can be mitigated.
We are committed to:
- Fostering high quality research in the thematic areas of development and sustainability (both within the developing country context and beyond), including cross-disciplinary work;
- Promoting national and international collaborative links with those involved in the research, policy and practice of economic development and sustainability;
- Enhancing the profile of Monash Business School and Monash University in the areas of development and sustainability within Australia and internationally; and
- Striving for policy impact through the dissemination of research findings and the promotion of informed public discussion and dialogue.
The CDES also actively participates in the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
Monash Business School is ranked 1st in Australia and 26th in the world in the field of development by RePEc (July 2016).
